Incoming ramble.
Mar. 26th, 2009 08:40 pmAs is usual with me and fandom materials... getting into things late. Things always just take a while to really grow on me, what can I say?
As such? Just finished reading the Haruhi novels (thank you baka-tsuki.org, now I know where to go if I ever have an urge for reading material!) - cool to know what all the fuss is about...

I'm currently um-ing and ah-ing about the pros and cons of getting onto Twitter. Does anyone know if you have to display your real name on it? Can that be hidden? It's the old Do Not Want Personal Details Online thing.
Doubt I'd ever use the thing, anyway, but I'm just working things out... it appeals to me WAY more than Facebook, at least. Somehow, that just I don't *want* to get back in touch with old high school buddies and all that. My old high school buddies... weren't. As much as I know that technically you don't have to put that many details on the thing... I don't know. It just really, really does NOT appeal. It's hard to put it into words.
I know ranting about social networking getting too much is kind of out of place on freaking LJ. And this is possibly the first real damn-kids-get-off-my-lawn moment I've ever had... (I'm scared :( ) But it just makes me think. It's a different atmosphere, really, isn't it?
An absolute pile of people in uni have an account on The Book. My cousin has one for keeping-in-touch purposes. Even my technophobe work buddy who thought that Youtube was illegal until last month has one. But... I already have ways of saying what I want. People can have my email and my IM address all they like if they want to get in touch - I'm *always* around, I'm not hard to get at. (But, then again, I'm the sort of person who leaves their mobile switched off half the time. I have a love-hate relationship with communications...)
There're only a couple of you reading this who've ever met me face to face. (Unless word has got around where I don't know.) And a small handful more who've seen pictures at all. That's a strange thought, really...
