On Eurovision.
May. 16th, 2004 10:11 pmOkay. Watching that strange phenomenon known as the Eurovision Song Contest last night. (Makes me think. Is there an American equivalent? Can anyone enlighten me?) Every country in Europe, and some that aren't, putting forwards their cheesiest song for the perusal of the rest of the continent. People all over phone in. The winner was the Ukraine. Not bad song. At least compared to some of the others.
But how much of the voting is actually about the music and how much is about politics? The Nordic countries vote for each other. The Balkans vote for each other. Why don't they make it the Eurovision Who-Likes-Whose-Country contest? Or stop countries next door to each other voting for each other.
Then again, that would kill any chance the Swiss have of winning anything.
