Thought for the day.
Jan. 11th, 2004 11:03 pmSpent today on my photography project for college. Was looking at neon advertising signs round a big shopping complex near where I live, with my dad there for guidance and transport.
Somehow, we ended killing time in a bookstore.
"Sometimes, I want to write a book myself," dad says (though this is obviously a paraphrase...). "But then I come in somewhere like this and see all these books - and that's what puts me off. How is anyone ever going to pick my book up in the middle of all this?..."
In real life as in fanfiction, I guess...
It's hard to be a Legend of Zelda writer. At least, one who wants to be read and enjoyed as a decent writer...
I won't give in to the negative "it all suxx0rz!!1! attitude that's around so often. But I remember seeing a lot of good writers give into it when I was just starting...
Maybe the only way to change things is to make a start myself.
I've got an idea. Is there a place for a 'Circle of Goodfic?' A site/blog made from recommendations of goodfics - linked to there, and rated by the readers. Maybe, the writer of the goodfic linked to would be alerted to the site - maybe they'd be able to advise somehow, if they were in the mood... Okay, probably an overblown, overgrown scheme. But could it work?
