Kitacon hell yeah!
So I've just got in from my fiiiirst ever convention! Technically, there's still stuff going on over there, but bailed early because bluh bluh work tomorrow and I want to actually be functional for it. XD
Freaking. Awesome. Times.
Arrived late Friday; dance party time. First lot was J-Pop and anime tunes; cue me dancing like a loon to Cirno's Perfect Math Class and whatever Iosys happened, and a great big pseudoconga to the tune from Hare+Guu for some reason. Hell if I know. Then it went onto the more conventional music; chart stuff, then party tunes, then dance and things like that (Pendulum, Daft Punk - Derezzed, hell yeah.) I buddied up with a coupla Zelda cosplayers who were really cool types for the evening. When I wasn't with them, I was trying to photo things, including the con's Tron duo for the evening, a young!Legacy!Flynn and a Clu (who I originally mistook for Rinzler, dammit, it was the helmet OK?): when the party songs kicked in, I couldn't help but be amused when the latter got to the YMCA. :p
Saturday, day began in the dealer's room. I snagged a few bits and pieces, including a rather nice little commission pic of Kurt from Sonia at Sweatdrop Studios; technically inaccurate, but hell, I don't care, it's frickin' cool. Ran around for a bit taking photos. Afternoon started with a newbie cosplayers' panel; caught a siesta after that because there was nothing on that really caught my eye, then it was time for the masquerade - damn my piece of bluh camera, it refused to focus, so half my pictures are blur-o-vision. Caught a MAD/parody vid screening session sometime around after that. Evening was Lamia Cross on stage, Singstar in the games room with a few folks who invited me to hang around with them as I looked kinda lost, and rock night. Rock night led by Kamina on the stage, throwing glowsticks to the crowd. Seriously, how do you beat that?
Today was mostly panels, for me, although I stopped by to watch (some of) the Evangelion remakes in the morning. I haven't seen the originals in ages, mind, so the differences were lost on me - I guess things diverge more a bit later than what I saw. Armour making tips, how the manga making process works, and cosplay on the cheap... and that was about when I headed home, though as I said, things were still going on.
Overall: awesome stuff. Next one I can make is Ayacon in Coventry, which is a bigger event... and I think I'll be going. And taking costumes with me.
